Going on a first date is fun and exciting! But trying to impress your date can often imply that you need to spend lots of money. Of course you want to make it special so you can get a second date. Luckily, there are some fantastic dates you can plan on a budget. If you want to save a bit of cash on your love life, here are our budget friendly first date ideas:
In the UK we are blessed with free museums all around the country. Wherever you are, there is bound to be an interesting museum near you! You might have never thought you would find a pencil museum interesting, but try it out.
Visiting a museum and discussing art is a good way of getting to know your date as well. And there will be no awkward silences as you can just pretend you are taking in the art!
Providing the weather is dry, you can prepare a picnic for you and your date. Bring a couple of sandwiches, snacks and maybe even a bottle of wine – this shouldn’t break the bank! The risk on a picnic date is that it is very much a ‘talking’ type of date. You can try to choose a park or field with a nice view so you can have something to talk about. Or bring a pack of cards or fun game to play!
Of course a picnic date works best in the summer on a sunny, warm day. But a winter picnic can work too! Ask your date to wear warm clothing and bring a flask of something warm to drink. If you pack up some blankets to snuggle under it could be a romantic picnic date.
Whether you have a dog yourself or not, a dog walking date is a fun idea for a relaxed afternoon! There are lots of dog ‘borrowing’ sites nowadays where you can look after a dog for a couple hours. Take the pooch for a walk and enjoy a stroll through the park whilst getting to know your date. You might want to make sure they are not allergic first!
Lots of pubs and cafés are dog friendly too, so you can even splash out on a coffee or alcoholic drink on your date!
Vintage shops are popping up everywhere! They are getting more popularity and for good reason. Shopping second hand is better for the planet, and often better for your wallet! Take your date on a walk around the town and visit all your local vintage shops. You can get to know your date by showing each other what you like and dislike.
If you want to be adventurous, you can challenge your date to find each other an item (within a certain budget) from one of the shops! At the end of the date you can give each other the item and see if you got to know each other well.
If you have a bit more of a budget for your first date, you can take your date to the pub or a nice bar. Lots of places have got happy hours on from late afternoon to early evening. You can do a sort of ‘happy hour crawl’, where you move from bar to bar depending on when their happy hour is.
Because you usually have to get two of the same drinks to qualify for the discount, you can take turns choosing your favourite cocktails! If you really want to make it fun, you can find pubs that have a pool table, darts or an event like a pub quiz!
With these date ideas we are very confident you can secure a second date! Dating doesn’t always have to be expensive, you just have to be creative.
